Overview

Napoleon Era 1807-1813
Napoleon’s history is also connected with Pomeranian region. Have you heard about a French state called the Free City of Gdańsk which survived 6 years? A bit south of Gdańsk there is a palace which once Napoleon described as: “… finally a decent palace”.

Napoleon cynically exploited the hopes of Poles to regain freedom. All nation was certain that Napoleon’s success in the East would also be a Polish victory. Gdańsk’s hopes for the rebirth of Poland were also high. Unfortunately the Polish society were used as an element of game between the great powers.
